It really is all about making Jesus the king in your life and not so much about trying to have a "relationship" with Him. He is our leader, Lord, and master, not our partner. There's a big difference in how we think of a companion/buddy/friend vs a king, and we need to get the perspective right.
It's not that we don't have a relationship with Jesus at all, I am simply pointing out that our focus needs to be on His lordship. He is our king. If we had a human king over us, we would acknowledge that before all else and obey his commands as loyal subjects. That's how we need to treat our heavenly King; with obedience and submitting ourselves to Him before anything else. Making Him Lord of our lives puts our relationship with Him exactly where it needs to be.
Does that mean God doesn't love us and doesn't want a personal relationship with us? Absolutely not! It's the difference in perspective we need to get right within ourselves that is so important. Is Jesus your king, or just a confidant?
James 2:23 And the scripture was fulfilled which saith, Abraham believed God, and it was imputed unto him for righteousness: and he was called the Friend of God.
Abraham was called the Friend of God, because he believed God and obeyed Him without question! God was his master, his king.
Heb 11:8 By faith Abraham , when he was called to go out into a place which he should after receive for an inheritance, obeyed; and he went out, not knowing whither he went... Heb 11:17 By faith Abraham , when he was tried, offered up Isaac: and he that had received the promises offered up his only begotten son...
Remember that Abraham obeyed God no matter what, even to the very moment of killing his own son to obey God, and God at the very last moment stopped him from killing his son and gave him a ram to sacrifice instead (Genesis 22:4-13). It was Abrahams unflinching faith and obedience to God that was perfect! That's why he was called a friend of God.
Rev 7:15 Therefore are they before the throne of God, and serve him day and night in his temple: and he that sitteth on the throne shall dwell among them. 16 They shall hunger no more, neither thirst any more; neither shall the sun light on them, nor any heat. 17 For the Lamb which is in the midst of the throne shall feed them, and shall lead them unto living fountains of waters: and God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes.
We are the children of God, and He will dwell among us for eternity. That's what this life is all about; His plan to get a people for Himself to live with forever!
Rev 21:3 And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God. 4 And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.
He is our King, and our Lord, and we need to understand that! He is the King of Kings and Lord of Lords!
Rev 19:16 And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS.
1 Tim 6:15 Which in his times he shall shew, who is the blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings, and Lord of lords
Rev 17:14 These shall make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb shall overcome them: for he is Lord of lords, and King of kings: and they that are with him are called, and chosen, and faithful.
He is the Almighty God!
Rev 1:8 I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty.
Isa 44:6 Thus saith the LORD the King of Israel, and his redeemer the LORD of hosts; I am the first, and I am the last; and beside me there is no God.
Do we obey Him as such? Is He the almighty God, our King and our Lord?
Luke 6:46 And why call ye me, Lord, Lord , and do not the things which I say?
He is King of everything in heaven and earth. Every knee shall bow to Him and every tongue confess that Jesus is Lord.
Phil 2:10 That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; 11 And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
Rom 14:11 For it is written, As I live, saith the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God.
Ps 47:6 Sing praises to God, sing praises: sing praises unto our King, sing praises. 7 For God is the King of all the earth: sing ye praises with understanding.
Rev 15:3 And they sing the song of Moses the servant of God, and the song of the Lamb, saying, Great and marvellous are thy works, Lord God Almighty; just and true are thy ways, thou King of saints. 4 Who shall not fear thee, O Lord, and glorify thy name? for thou only art holy: for all nations shall come and worship before thee; for thy judgments are made manifest.
Luke 19:38 Saying, Blessed be the King that cometh in the name of the Lord: peace in heaven, and glory in the highest.
Praise the Lord Jesus Christ! Praise be to our King! Hallelujah!
