He That Overcometh

• Rev 21:7 shall inherit all things

• Rev 2:26 and keepeth my works unto the end, to him will I give power over the nations

• Rev 3:5 the same shall be clothed in white raiment; and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life

• Rev 3:12 I will write upon him my new name

• Rev 2:11 shall not be hurt of the second death

• Rev 2:7 will I give to eat of the tree of life, which is in the midst of the paradise of God

Overcome what? What do we have to overcome to inherit all things and be with God in paradise?

Overcome the world:

1 John 5:4 For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.

2 Peter 2:19  While they promise them liberty, they themselves are the servants of corruption: for of whom a man is overcome, of the same is he brought in bondage. 20 For if after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they are again entangled therein, and overcome, the latter end is worse with them than the beginning.

Overcome the wicked one (Satan):

1 John 2:13 I write unto you, fathers, because ye have known him that is from the beginning. I write unto you, young men, because ye have overcome the wicked one. I write unto you, little children, because ye have known the Father. 14 I have written unto you, fathers, because ye have known him that is from the beginning. I have written unto you, young men, because ye are strong, and the word of God abideth in you, and ye have overcome the wicked one.

Overcome our flesh:

Gal 5:19 The lusts of the flesh are:
Adultery
Fornication
Uncleanness (impurity; physical or moral)
Lasciviousness (lacking moral restraints; especially sexual)
Idolatry
Witchcraft (sorcery)
Hatred
Variance (quarreling or contentious)
Emulations (jealousy)
Wrath
Strife
Seditions (disunion; controversy and uprising)
Heresies (going against God)
Envyings
Murders
Drunkenness
Revelings (letting loose)

Gal 5:21 ...they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.

1 John 2:15 Love not the world , neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.

Cease from sin:

Rom 6:15 What then? shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? God forbid.

Heb 10:26 For if we sin willfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins...

Galatians 2:17 But if, while we seek to be justified by Christ, we ourselves also are found sinners, is therefore Christ the minister of sin? God forbid.

2 Timothy 2:19 Let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity.

2 Peter 2:14 Having eyes full of adultery, and that cannot cease from sin; beguiling unstable souls: an heart they have exercised with covetous practices; cursed children: 

DO NOT BE DECEIVED!

Eph 5:5 For this ye know, that no whoremonger, nor unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, hath any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God. 6 Let no man deceive you with vain words for because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience.

Jesus questions why we would not obey Him...

Luke 6:46 And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?

John 14:15 If ye love me, keep my commandments.

1 John 2:3 And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments. 4 He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.

What does it mean to obey and keep His commandments?

So HOW DO WE OVERCOME?

Abstain from fleshly lust... Cleave to that which is good and utterly detest evil!

1 Peter 2:11 Dearly beloved, I beseech you as strangers and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul

Romans 12:9 Let love be without dissimulation. Abhor that which is evil; cleave to that which is good.

• Unfeigned love, without hyporcisy, is to utterly detest evil and cleave (join or keep company) to that which is good!

Pray without ceasing

1 Thess 5:16 Rejoice evermore. 17 Pray without ceasing. 18 In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.

Mat 26:41 Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.

• Does this mean we have to be on our knees all day long? No! Humbling yourself before God and praying on your knees should be a regular thing in your life, but we have to live our life, so this means to be in constant communication with God throughout the day. Talk to Jesus, humbly, reverently, thoughout your day. It's harder to sin when we are concious of God and thinking of Him!

Give God what He deserves! The sacrifice of praise!

• The most perfect prayer is praising Jesus who is the only one who deserves our praise!

Reign in your tongue! Be careful what you say!

Mat 15:18 But those things which proceed out of the mouth come forth from the heart; and they defile the man.

James 3:6 And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell.

LOVE GOD and walk humbly with Him!

Mark 12:29 And Jesus answered him, The first of all the commandments is, Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord: 30 And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment.

Micah 6:8 He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the Lord require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God?

Eccl 12:13 Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.

John 14:21 He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him. 

What does it mean to love God?

Walk in the Spirit and deny your flesh!

Gal 5:16 This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.

• This goes hand in hand with praying without ceasing.

Eze 36:27 And I will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and ye shall keep my judgments, and do them.

Seek the Holy Spirit! This is where we find the power to overcome!

Luke 11:13 If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?

• We know how to give good gifts to our children, and God will give us of His Spirit if we just ask Him!

Mat 3:11 I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance: but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire:

• Jesus will give us His Holy Spirit and cleans us with fire! He will give us the power to overcome!

Acts 1:8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you:

John 14:18 I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you. 

1 Cor 12:7 But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal.

1 Cor 12:31 But covet earnestly the best gifts

1 Cor 14:1 Follow after charity, and desire spiritual gifts

Acts 2:38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

What are the Gifts of the Spirit?

There is POWER in the Name of Jesus

Luke 10:17 And the seventy returned again with joy, saying, Lord, even the devils are subject unto us through thy name.

Luke 22:69 Hereafter shall the Son of man sit on the right hand of the power of God.

1 Cor 1:24 But unto them which are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God

John 20:31 But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name.

• Everlasting life is through His name!

The Power of the Name of Jesus!

Fasting

Mat 17:21 Howbeit this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting.

• If you're having a hard time overcoming any particular sin, fast. God will give you the power to overcome if you fast and pray!

Scriptures on Fasting in the Bible

Rev 14:12  Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus.

Rev 21:7  He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son.

To be with God forever, we MUST overcome our sinful nature, ceasing from sin and following Jesus in obedience.

And God gives us the power to do so!

We cannot do it without Him. It's impossible. We need His Spirit in order to overcome our pride, our flesh, our sin, and the devil.
